I Can Use the Bathroom Going to the Bathroom when I am Not at Home Sometimes Mom or Dad and I go to stores. While I am at the store I sometimes need to use the bathroom. This is the boys bathroom. This is the girls bathroom. Some bathrooms have stalls. Some bathrooms are for one person only. I can knock on the door to see if the bathroom is empty. I shut the door to the bathroom Mom and Dad will help me. I go and use the toilet. I use toilet paper to wipe after I pee or poop. I flush the toilet by pressing the handle or it flushes all by itself. Sometimes the flush is really loud. I might feel scared from the sound. Before I flush I will say. "This might be loud. I will be okay." Mom and Dad can help me use a calm down tool instead of getting scared. I can cover my ears til the flush is over. I can ask Mom to squeeze my head gently to feel safe like a hug. I can take a deep breath and count to 5 until the flush is over and all done. I can chew on something when I am nervous or scared. I can use big headphones to block out the big noise for a little bit. Even though the toilet might be loud it will not hurt me. I am okay and safe with Mom and Dad. I need to wash hands when I am finished using the toilet. I use soap to wash my hands I dry my hands I throw garbage in the trash can If I need to go potty when I am not home I will go on the toilet. I can do it! Boys can use a urinal I wait in a line when I am done. too loud Listening Center
